A.H. (Gus) Pilla, 79, of Chatsworth, died Tuesday night in the Akron hospital from a heart ailment. Mr. Pilla had been in failing health for some time.
He recently purchased a residence in Hawarden and he and his wife had planned to move here. Shortly after he bought the house he became seriously ill.
Funeral services will be held at St. Mary's church in Hawarden with Rev. Fr. R. Graf officiating. The time had not been set this morning.
Mr. Pilla was born in Stienfadt, Germany, May 16, 1869. He came to America with his parents when a year old. They located in Kansas where he lived on a farm until he was 21 when he came to Chatsworth. He bought a farm adjoining Chatsworth on the west.
He married Sophia Mary Friday in 1895 and continued to live at Chatswroth 12 years when he and his wife moved to Saskatchewan, Canada, living there 30 years. In 1934 he came back to his farm at Chatsworth where he spent the rest of his life.
He was the father of 14 children, three of whom died in infancy. Survivors are his widow; 11 children, Frank of Buldur, Canada, Leo of Humboldt, Canada, Lawrence of Pickering, Canada, Henry of St. Catering, Canada, Ralph of Muenster, Canada, Norman of Alcester, John of Chatsworth, Mrs. Ben Westendorf of St. Norbert, Canada, Mrs. Ben Suttorp of Rosser, Canada, Mrs. Conrad Kienlin of St. Rose Du Lac, Canada, and Mrs. John Kramer of Bruno, Canada; 35 grandchildren; two adopted grandchildren and three great grandchildren.
