Marriage: 11 December 1867

Dudley P. Ladd, of Wellington, (son of Aaron,) was born in Middlesex, Vt., Oct. 29, 1839. He attended the district school until 1853, when he went to Manchester, N.H., to live with his sister, Mrs. F.A. Brown, where he attended the grammar and high schools for two years; was then employed in the daguerreotype and photograph rooms of his brother-in-law, Frank A. Brown, where he remained until 1861, when he enlisted in the 1st N.H. Battery and served until 1864, when his time expired and he was discharged. He was taken prisoner at the battle of Bull Run, Aug. 29, 1862, was paroled the next day, and reached our lines at Point of Rocks, Maryland, the next Wednesday. From there he was sent to the parole camp at Cumberland, Md., and from there to Columbus, Ohio, and from there returned home by the last of October; remained at home a few weeks, and then rejoined his company just before the battle of Fredericksburg, but did not take part in that battle owing to some informality of his exchange papers; but he was in most of the engagements of the Army of the Potomac from that time until the expiration of his term of service in 1864. After leaving the army he was employed most of the time, until 1866, in the store of his sister-in-law, Mrs. E. C. Ladd, at Philadelphia, Pa., then entered the employment, as travelling agent, of Hirsh & Bro., manufacturers of umbrellas and parasols, and has been in their employ ever since. He ma.
