John Sidney Acosta was a college football player and coach from Jacksonville, Florida who went to Yale from the Lawrenceville (New Jersey) School. He was the son of Tracy Lucien and Cora (Bailey) Acosta. In 1919 and 1920 was on the university football team and was a prominent guard. Acosta was selected for the First-Team All-American in 1920. After graduation he joined his father in the insurance business in Jacksonville. He became the freshman coach for the Florida Gators in 1922, and helped lead them to a southern title. He died in an automobile accident.
