Emma was the daughter of Alfred and Sarah (Cole) York. She married Smallwood Noland Howell on Oct. 25, 1883 in Beattyville, Lee County Kentucky. She and Smallwood had two children, Ida (married Walter Daniel) and Jerry (never married). Her burial place is unknown, but most likely in the Ashcraft Cemetery, which is where Smallwood is buried. Neither one had marked graves.
