Gladys Leona Hamrick Abbott, 92, went into the open arms of Jesus on Thursday evening (Sept. 6, 2007) at the Wishing Well Health Center in Fairmont. She was surrounded by her family at the time of passing. Mrs. Abbott was born May 23, 1915, in Burgoo. She was the second oldest of 11 children of the late Homer B. and Sophia E. Hamrick, formerly of Kingmont. Mrs. Abbott worked for several years as a waitress "in her day" at the Moose Lodge No. 9 while Jimmy Morgan and His Band performed the "floor shows." She also worked for the Marion County Senior Aide Program holding jobs at the Marion County Public Library with her last employment under this program at the John Manchin Hospital on the East Side. Gladys was noted for her humor and loved to tell jokes. She was married to the late Dorsey Vernon Abbott Sr., who preceded her in death in 1956.
