Frances Teel Fletcher departed this world on March 11, 2014, at age 98. Born to Emmett and Eulah Hardy Teel in Wills Point, Texas, she resided there until her marriage in 1932 to George Mouzon Fletcher. She is survived by a daughter June Fletcher Hatfield, a son-in-law Tony M. Hatfield, and a granddaughter, Heather Caroline Hatfield, all of Houston. Other survivors include a sister, Mildred Jo Adams of Dallas and her daughter Kay Bradford, as well as nieces and nephews.
Mouzon was first a school administrator before entering the ministry as a member of the United Methodist Texas Conference. The couple served a number of churches in the East Texas area including Wills Point, Mt. Pleasant, Texarkana, and Tyler, enjoying a very fulfilling ministry until Mouzon's death in 1979.
Frances enjoyed being a "preacher's wife" and was very active in all phases of the church. Her main interest was music. She was an expert with children's choirs, devoting countless hours to playing piano for Sunday school, summer Bible school programs, as well as private kindergartens. She was an accomplished pianist and organist, exhibiting a natural flair. She served as organist in local chapters of the Order of the Eastern Star and the Masonic Lodge, where Mouzon was actively involved. In every town where they lived, she participated in community activities such as Bible study groups, garden and book clubs, always providing musical support.
In 1996, Frances moved to Houston to be near her family. She has resided at Treemont retirement center since that time, where once again she developed a music program. She and fellow residents planned and presented numerous performances which were enjoyed by many. In addition, she filled a frequent need for a pianist for parties, celebrations, services and the like. Joining her family as a member of Chapelwood United Methodist church, she was quickly recruited to be the pianist for the newly founded Genesis class which her daughter and son-in-law attended. Many new members of the class said that they followed the sound of her music from the halls which led to their decision to join the class. They admired her down-home rendition of favorite hymns and came to regard her as the "class mother." The class honored her with surprise birthday celebrations and made contributions of song books in her name.
The music slowed in tempo as Frances approached her later years. But those who remember her musical contributions have predicted that the heavenly chorus will exhibit a livelier and more energetic tempo with the arrival of Frances there.
A funeral service on Friday, March 14, will occur at 1:00 P.M. at Allan Fuller Funeral Home Chapel in Wills Point, presided over by Rev. Billy Watson. Burial will take place in White Rose Cemetery. A memorial and celebration of life service will follow at a date to be announced in Chapelwood United Methodist Church in Houston.
Memorial contributions may be made to Chapelwood in Houston or Russell Memorial Methodist in Wills Point. Gifts specified for musical programs and needs would be appropriate and appreciated.
The family would like to express appreciation for the loving support and care provided by the staff of Treemont in Houston.
