Highland, NY - Joan Eleanor Sutton, 78, a life-long resident of Highland, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, March 11, 2014 at Vassar Hospital with her family by her side.

Born in the Town of Lloyd, September 13, 1935, she was the daughter of the late William J. Judge and Alice M. Southworth. She was previously married to Willard Sutton, Sr. of Highland, NY. Joan was a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. She is survived by her 5 children: Willard Sutton, Jr and wife Ida of Highland, NY, Joan E. Sutton of Highland, NY, Emily Neer and husband Robert of Rifton, NY, Cindy Hadden and Alan Hogan Sr. of Rosendale, NY and Robert W. Sutton and wife Dawn of Highland, NY. 11 grandchildren: Joshua Sutton, Amanda Sutton, Tiffany Hunt, Krista Ortiz, Matthew DuBois Sr., Michael DuBois Sr., Brian Hadden, Alan Hogan Jr., Robert Miller Jr., Jessica Miller and Kelly Neer; 17 Great Grandchildren and several nieces and nephews. She is also survived by brothers Arthur and William Judge III and 1 sister, Alice M. Judge of New Paltz, NY.

Joan attended Highland High School and Ulster County Community College. Joan was very active throughout her lifetime. She enjoyed spending time with family and friends, was very passionate in entertaining and throwing parties. Joan also enjoyed taking trips with her grandchildren and playing Bocci at The Would in Highland. She belonged to the Tres Dias Community, and Clintondale Friends Christian Church she was also a member of the Ladies Auxiliary at VFW Post 8645 in New Paltz, NY.

A 24-year NYS Service employee, she worked at the Highland Training School as an office worker, Highland Central School District as a bus driver, Office of Vocational Rehabilitation in both Kingston and Poughkeepsie as an accountant clerk, Department of Environmental Conservation in New Paltz as an account clerk and retiring from Wallkill Correctional Facility as a Senior Account Clerk in March of 1991. Joan was a CSEA Officer for many years. After retiring, she continued to work in New Paltz, New York as an office manager for Pine Funeral Home, Inc., and later as a rental agent for Town and Country Condominiums.

Calling hours will be held Friday, March 14th from 4pm-8pm at the Michael Torsone Memorial Funeral Home, Inc., 38 Main Street, Highland, NY 12528. A Funeral Home Service will be held Saturday, March 15th 10:00 am at the funeral home followed by burial in Union Cemetery of Lloyd in Highland.
