Dies at Work

Judge J. Lewis Brown, 64, prominent Salt Lake attorney and former third district court Judge, died of a heart attack Thursday at 4:40 p. m. in the city and county building.

Judge Brown, engaged in legal research for the past few years, won renown for his work as Third district court Judge from 1916, to 1920.

He was born July 6, 1881, in Murray, a son of Henry and Sarah Kilpack Brown. He married Lucy Fisher Sept. 2, 1903, in Salt Lake City.

Mr. Brown served a two-year L D S mission to the northwestern states. He attended the University of Utah and then taught for three years in Salt Lake county schools before continuing his legal education. He received his law degree from the University of Chicago in 1909.

He was Murray city attorney for a number of years and served one term as member of the state legislature. After completing his term as Third district judge, he served as instructor in criminal law at the University of Utah for
17 years.

Survivors include his widow, Mrs. Lucy Fisher Brown, Salt Lake City; two daughters, Mrs. Carol Loveless, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Lillace D. Foord, Murray; a son, Grant L. Brown, Hawthorne, Nev., four sisters; Mrs. Lovenia Cahoon, Magna; Mrs. Elizabeth Dunster, Murray; Mrs. Lillace E. Fisher, East Mill Creek; Mrs. Zina Bennion, Murray; and four grandchildren.

Ex-Judge Rites
Set Monday

Funeral services for J. Lewis Brown, 64, prominent Salt Lake attorney and former Third district court judge, who died of a heart attack Thursday in the city and county building, will be conducted Monday at 12:30 at Murray First L D S ward chapel by W. L. Wright, bishop, Murray Third ward.

Mr. Brown was Murray city attorney for a number of years, served one term as member of the state legislature, was Third district court judge from 1916 to 1920, and was an instructor in criminal law at the University of Utah for 17 years.

Speakers will be F. Y. Fox, president, L D S Business college, and U. G. Miller, Cottonwood, L D S stake patriarch.

Friends may call at 4760 S. State Sunday afternoon and Monday until noon. Burial will be in Murray city cemetery.
