Man Killed by Train in Second Fatality of Year

The second member of our ward to lose his life in less than two months on the rail crossing was Evan John Llewelyn, who was killed Monday a few minutes after he had attended the funeral of Mr. Andrew Hall, where he had offered the closing prayer.

He was traveling west on 43th South. The red lights were blinking and the bell was ringing. There was an engine switching south of the crossing. Evidently Mr. Llewelyn thought the the crossing open other than the switch engine but he was hit by a second train coming from the north. The car was demolished.

Mr. Llewelyn was rushed to the hospital by the Murray City firemen where he died at 12:02 without regaining consciousness.

G. A. Beesley, East Ninth South street, locomotive engineer, said he was en Routo to Provo and was traveling about 25 miles per hour when the car pulled onto the tracks in front of him. Police said the signals at the railroad crossing were working and the train whistle was blowing at the time of the accident.

Evan John Llewelyn was born in Schofield, Utah, February 8, 1885, a son of Isaiah and Louesa Hunt Llewelyn. He had been a Murray resident for 23 years being a high priest in tile the Murray Second ward of the L. D. S. church and serving as a Sunday school and ward teacher.

He is survived by his wife Mrs. Leona G. Llewelyn; four sons, Boyd, Evan, and Francis of Murray and Paul who is in the army at present in California; four daughters, Dathel Gres??, Athelia Thomas and Rachel Llewelyn of Murray and Vedal Group of Detroit Mich. Children by a former marriage are William A. Llewelyn of Clear Creek, Catherine Oaky of California, Leona Elkins of Murray and Isaiah Llewelyn of Tooele.
