On this 4th day of March 1904 personally appeared before me, Clerk of the Circuit Court in and for said county and State, J. D. Joyce, who being by me duly sworn, declares he is the identical person who enlisted on or about the 15th day of June 1861 in Captain R. A. Hardee's Company H, county of Brooks in the State of Georgia and that while in actual service in said company H, 9th GA Regiment of the State of GA and in line of duty as such soldier near Danville, VA on or about the 7th day of April 1865 and was honorably discharged at the expiration of his service on the 7th day of April 1865 in ---county , State of VA and was discharged and on account of extreme old age (being over 74) Seventy four years and exceedingly feeble renders him entirely unable to do manual labor of any kind whatsoever and that he has no one to whom he can apply for aid..............Sworn and subscribed before me this 4th day of March 1904, M. M. Scarborough, Clerk Circuit Court, Columbia County----signed-J. D. Joyce, P. O. Box Tolen, Fla

I do solemnly swear that I was born on the 19th day of January 1830 in Tattnall County, State of Georgia and that I am now past the age of sixty-five years, that I was a bon fide citizen of this State on January A.D. 1885 and have continuously resided in this State since that day; that I do not own property, real or personal to the value of eight hundred dollars ($800), and that I am by reason of age incapable of providing a living by manual labor for myself......Sworn and subscribed before me this 4th day of March 1904, M. M. Scarborough, Clerk Circuit Court, Columbia County----signed-J. D. Joyce, P. O. Box Tolen, Fla.

To the Govenor, State of Florida, Tallahassee: The records show that John D. Joyce, sergeant, Company H (Hardee's) 9th Georgia Infantry, Confederate States Army, enlisted June 6, 1861. On the muster roll of the company for February 1865 (last roll on file), he is reported present. No later record of him has been found.

Letter: Dr. W. H. Cox, M. D. & A. C. Conglin, M. D.
Brooksville, Fla-September 30th 1913, this is to certify that I have examined John D. Joyce, and find him totally unable to do any manual labor whatever.

In Mary C. Joyce Winters Harris Widow's Pension Claim dated February 17, 1912, she indicates in personal correspondence that address was Parish, Manatee County, FL and that she was ".......living here with my father Mr J D Joyce taking care off him of cours you all know who Mr. J D Joyce is his name is on your Pension roll.............."
