Cornelius Rexford obituary from the genealogy of his father Ensign Rexford:

Cornelius Rexford, a veteran of the civil war passed away Sunday noon at the residence of his son, Benjamin Rexford, 810 Douglas Street, of heart disease. He was born at Keane, New York, Dec. 15, 1838 and enlisted at Grand Rapids, Mich., in Co. F, 1st Michigan Engineers and Mechanics, in 1862 and received his honorable discharge at the close of the war. His wife died in 1897. He is survived by five children, Mrs. Wm. J. Rapp, and Benjamin of this city, George E., and Wm., of Marrion, Mich., David of Riverdale, Mich., fourteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren, one brother and two sisters, Wm., of Lowell, Mich., Mrs. Ranson Abbey of Belding, Mich., and Mrs. J. Massonbruck of Big Rapids, Mich.
