Martin Benhard Exner was born on December 28, 1929 in Lincoln, Texas to Emil Oswald & Agnes Marie (Lehmann) Exner. He was baptized on January 5, 1930 and confirmed on April 18, 1943 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lincoln by Rev. Reinhard Osthoff. Martin served in the U.S. Army from January 13, 1953 until January 13, 1955 and was an artillery gunner who had been stationed in Japan. Following his Honorable Discharge as a Corporal, he served five years in the Army Reserves. He was united in marriage to Dorothy Lay on June 25, 1955 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Lincoln by Rev. H.A. Stroebel. Their marriage was blessed with four children, Cathy, Ronnie, Debbie and Connie. Martin was a retired carpenter and had worked for Gaeke Construction in Giddings for over 30 years. He enjoyed working with his cattle, planting peanuts, gardening, deer hunting, fishing and eating his sweets. He deeply loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Martin passed away the afternoon of Monday, March 10, 2014 at the University Medical Center at Brackenridge in Austin from injuries he suffered in an automobile accident that occurred on February 28, 2014. He was preceded in death by his daughter, son-in-law and granddaughter, Debbie, David & Destiny Noack; his parents, Emil & Agnes Exner; his half sister, Edna Exner; his brothers, Monroe Exner and Clarence Exner; his sister-in-law, Norma Exner and his nephew, Timmy Exner. Martin is survived by his wife of 58 years, Dorothy Exner of Lincoln; three children, Cathy Schulze & her husband, Clyde of Lexington, Ronnie Exner & his wife, Teresa of Lexington and Connie Boriack & her husband, Wesley of Lincoln; eight grandchildren, Brian Schulze of Lexington, Devon Schulze & his wife, Megan of Lexington, Tamara Boriack of Lincoln & her friend, Jason, Kelsi Boriack of Lincoln & her friend, Marco, Miranda Boriack of Lincoln, Jordon Exner of Lexington, Dylana Noack of Giddings and Heather Exner of Lexington; three great grandchildren, Caleb Schulze and Katelyn Schulze both of Elgin and Mason Schulze of Lexington along with a great granddaughter to be born in July to Devon & Megan Schulze; two brothers, Walter Exner of Lexington and Elton Exner & his wife, Janice of Houston; two brothers-in-law, Otto Lay & his wife, Geneva and Oscar Lay & his wife, Bernice all of Lexington as well numerous nieces, nephews and many friends. Serving as pallbearers will be Brian Schulze, Devon Schulze, Jordon Exner, Calvin Lay, Carl Exner and Mickey Exner.
