Motion-Picture Producer. He produced the hit horror films "Saw" (2004) and "Saw II" (2005). As vice president in charge of production at Disney from 1995 to 2003, he developed such live-action films as "101 Dalmatians" (1996), "George of the Jungle" (1997), "The Parent Trap" (1998), and "Inspector Gadget" (1999). Hoffmann was born in Phoenix, Arizona, and entered the film industry in 1986. He joined Evolution Entertainment in 2003, where he became enthusiastic over an 8-minute short thriller and persuaded his bosses to turn it into a feature. Produced at a cost of $1 million, "Saw" grossed over $100 million at the box office and spawned an equally profitable sequel. Declaring that fans of the genre were "rabid and underserved," Hoffmann then launched Twisted Pictures for the purpose of making low budget horror movies. He had four such projects in development (including "Saw III") at the time of his death.
