Arnold J. "Nito" Mares 4/23/1934 - 3/12/2014 79, of Winkelman, AZ. Passed away March 12, 2014 at his home in Tempe surrounded by family. Born and raised in Winkelman and known by many as "Nito". He proudly served our country in the US Air Force and the community as Mayor for the Town of Winkelman. He worked as a payroll accountant for Kennecott and Asarco Copper Mines where he later retired in 1994. He coached many youth athletes, participated in bowling leagues, sang in the church choir and was President of the Lions Club of Hayden. He made Winkelman his home until the floods of 1993 forced him to relocate to Oracle, AZ, and then to Tempe, AZ, where he continued his coaching of youth girls softball, a sport he loved dearly. He is survived by his wife, Rosie of 53 years; four children, Robert (Francis), Gabriel, Noreena (Armando) and Chris (Lisa), Mary and Filiberto Borquez; 13 grandchildren, brother, Oscar Ruiz; sister, Carmen R. Martinez; numerous brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, Godchildren, countless nieces and nephews that called him "Tio Dad". Our family would like to express our most sincere gratitude to all for your support. Visitation will be held on Thursday, March 20, 2014 at CARRILLO'S TUCSON MORTUARY (South Chapel) 240 S. Stone Ave., from 5:00 p.m. - 10:00 p.m. with Rosary at 7:00 p.m. Mass of Cristian Burial at St. Augustine's Cathedral, 192 S. Stone Ave. on Friday, March 21, 2014 at 10:30 a.m. Interment will follow at Holy Hope Cemetery, 3535 N. Oracle Rd. 85705.
