Evelyn P. Metzger, 91, of Brenham, passed away on Monday, March 10, 2014. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m., with a wake service beginning at 7 p.m., Friday, March 14, 2014, at Brenham Memorial Chapel. A Mass of Christian Burial will be at 10 a.m., Saturday, March 14, at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery.

Evelyn was born near Luckenbach, Texas, to the late Henry and Alma Jenschke Petsch. The second of three children, she enjoyed country life on the farm with older sister, Paula, and younger brother, Vernon. Evelyn enjoyed riding horses and helping her father run the farm.

She married Bruno Metzger in Fredericksburg, Texas, on May 14, 1946. Their comfortable little home in Fredericksburg is where they welcomed to the world their first son, Roger. A few years later Evelyn and Bruno moved to San Antonio where daughter, Karla, and son, Dean were born. Being dutiful parents who placed a premium on faith and education, they both worked tirelessly to provide quality private catholic school educations for Roger, Karla and Dean – each of whom eventually attended college and earned degrees.

"Oma" cherished life's simple pleasures and relished spending time with her grandchildren, Kurt, Ryan and Claire. She was also a "surrogate" grandmother to Jake, Dixie, Lindsay, Chrissy, Tori, Jana, Leah, Mia, Reid and numerous other youngsters that she cared for over the years.

Evelyn enjoyed baking pies for the Bluebonnet Inn Restaurant, volunteering at the Brenham State School, attending Metzger-Petsch Family reunions at Lake Travis, and playing pinochle and dominoes with her friends at Kruse Village. Never one to sit still, she looked forward to her annual trips to Las Vegas with Karla and Ken; treks with Roger and Tamy to visit Kurt and Ryan; and frequent trips to Dallas and then Austin to see Dean, Julie and Claire.

She was preceded in death by her sister, Paula; and brother, Vernon.

Evelyn is survived by her sons, Roger and his wife, Tamy, of Brenham, and Dean and his wife, Julie, of Austin; daughter, Karla Thomas and her husband, Ken, of Lake Travis; grandsons, Kurt, of Dallas, and Ryan and wife, Olivia, of Frisco, Texas; granddaughter, Claire who is attending Texas A&M University in College Station; great-granddaughters: Bailey, Aubrey and Ellie, and Grace and Evan; sister-in law, Charlene Petsch; and nephew, Thomas Petsch, both of San Antonio.
