(Robert and Elizabeth appear to have separated or divorced as they were living in separate households by the 1860 federal census for Mehoopany, Wyoming Co., PA) Charles was a veteran of the US Civil War, enlisting in March of 1864. According to his service record, Charles Arnold contracted measles the following month in April of 1864 and spent the vast majority of his service time ill and in the hospital.
Charles Arnold married three times. His first wife was Mary Ann Robinson whom he married July 3, 1872 at Meshoppen, PA. Mary Ann Robinson was the mother of two of his children, Carrie Maud Arnold and Louie Arnold, both of which died of diphtheria in 1878. Charles and Mary Ann divorced in June of 1882. Just a few days after the divorce decree was final, Charles Arnold married his 2nd wife, Christine Pollner. Christine Arnold died in 1893 and Charles Arnold married his 3rd wife Sarah Shoemaker, daughter of John Shoemaker and Rhoda Adams. I have identified at least 13 children Charles Arnold fathered between these three women, although several did not survive childhood.
