FLORENCE
Glenn Thomas Hayes, 92, of Florence and a lifelong resident of Lauderdale County, died Tuesday March 11, 2014 after an extended illness. Visitation will be Wednesday evening March 12 from 6-9 pm at Elkins Funeral Home of Florence. Services will be Thursday at Central Baptist Church at 11 am, lying in state from 10 am till 11 am with Brother Henry Melton officiating. Burial will be at Tri-Cities Gardens.
He was a member of Central Baptist Church, where he served as secretary/treasurer for many years. He was retired from the U. S. Postal Service and Suntrust Bank. Mr. Hayes was a decorated Army Veteran, serving in both WW II and The Korean War. His bravery earned him numerous honors including two Purple Heart Medals and a Bronze Star Medal. He enjoyed playing baseball and was a member of the Florence Raiders Semi-Pro baseball team in his youth. He loved his God, family, country, was one of the kindest and most generous men you would ever meet. And loved the Alabama Crimson Tide, where he was a season ticket holder for almost 60 years.
Mr. Hayes was preceded in death by his parents, Floyd and Lois Hayes, brother, Cecil Hayes, great-grandson, Landon Clemmons and son-in-law Ronnie Brewer.
He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Lucille Hayes, daughter, Donna Brewer; sons, Terry Hayes (Donna), Randy Hayes (Carolyn), Jeff Hayes; sisters, Ailene Robertson, Joyce Sigers; brother, Jack Hayes (Debbie); grandchildren, Sabrina Davis (Dale), Kacy Clemmons (Brad), Ashley Bunch (Robbie), Chad Brewer (Deidra), Crystal Littrell (Thad), Justin Hayes (Betsy), Kira Brewer; great grandchildren, Will Davis, Brannon May, Hayden and Darby Clemmons, Preslie and Jackson Bunch, Brooklyn and Blayden Brewer, Caden Wicks, Cayley Littrell, Saylor and Davie Hayes.
