Inscription

IN MEMORY OF
COL. DANIEL SPEFORD
WHO DIED APRIL 26
1803 Æt. 82.

To the dark caverns of the silent tomb,
Alll ages, sexes, and conditions come;
A tender husband and a parent kind
Here sleeps in dust, to the cold grave resg'nd.
This gloomy prison shall no more be burst,
Till Heaven's command shall wake the sleeping dust
Then earth's unnumber'd million shall arise,
And men with angels throng the eternal skies.
