Elmer Farris Hendricks, 83, Jamestown, died Oct. 22, 1999, at California Care Center. He was born Feb. 26, 1916, in Henley, a son of John M. and Arreta Florence Wyrick Hendricks. He was married April 12, 1940, in St. Louis, to Helen May Brown, who survives at the home.

He was a farmer, a cabinetmaker and a laborer for J. B. Deeres. He also taught at Drury College in Springfield and worked for the Civilian Conservation Corps. He was an avid outdoorsman.

Other survivors include: two sons, William “Bill” Hendricks, Sandy Hook, and Robert “Bob” Hendricks, Tuscumbia; five daughters, Peggy Johnston, Kansas City, Brenda Borton, Eldon, Patricia Newton, Eustis, Fla., Barbara Hendricks, Barnett, and Caroline Schlup, Blue Springs; one sister, Irene Holden, Jefferson City; 22 grandchildren, 13 great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by one son, Edward Farris Hendricks, and one granddaughter.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Tuesday at Phillips Funeral Home, Eldon. The Rev. David Griffith will officiate. Burial will be in Gott Cemetery.
