Dick was born Dec. 8, 1923 on the family farm northwest of Sibley. He was the son of Leland and Estella (Bullington) Person. He received his schooling at Sibley, graduating from high school in 1941. He continued his education at Northwestern Bible Institute in Minneapolis, Minn. He received the J. Wilbur Chapman Scholarship for Spiritual Growth upon his graduation which provided for his seminary training.

Dick was united in marriage to Ellen Friedrich on Aug. 25, 1945 at Sibley. Upon graduating from Northwestern Seminary in 1946, he began pastoral ministry at Brainerd, Minn.
He then continued his education at Hardin-Simmonds University in Abilene, TX. While attending graduate school, he organized and pastored a mission church in Abilene.
After completing his schooling, Richard pastored the Baptist churches in Climbing Hill, Emerson, and Storm Lake.

Since moving to South Dakota in 1977, he has been the pastor of the Baptist Church in Chancellor, S.D., was the chaplain at the North American Baptist Home in Madison, S.D., and for 16 years, he served as the Visitation Pastor and coordinated the Senior Adults Ministries of the First Baptist Church in Sioux Falls, SD. Dick retired from active ministry on Dec. 31, 2000.
