He became a founder of the Christian Democratic Party (CDU) in Berlin after the end of the Second World War and became the local chairman in 1947. In 1953 Walther Schreiber became mayor of the city of Berlin. He holded this office until the elections of December 1954. After he lost the election Walther Schreiber withdrawed from the public.
