War Correspondent. Stuart was a husband and a father that lived in Berkhamstead in Hertforshire. Working as a war correspondent for the London News Chronicle. Wanting the experience for better writing he began to ride along with the pilots, with his next story he had ample knowledge of how the Japanese pilots flew. He found himself in a British tank as they attacked Japanese positions in Arakan. Stuart travelled in many dangerous situations to get his story. Stuart was part of the group of journalists that walked the 200 miles with the Chindits to the western banks of the Chindwin River in February 1943. He maintained his connection with the Brigade. The following year while covering the build up of troops for the second Chindit expedition, he joined them and when on March 24, 1944, the American Mitchell Bomber that was transporting General Wingate, Wingate's Adjutant, George Borrow and a number of newspaper war correspondents, crashed in the hills around Bishenpur, India. The exact cause of the accident was never established.
