Robert Kenneth Allaire, 71 HOLLIS CENTER -- Robert K. Allaire, 71, of Hollis Center, passed away peacefully on Monday evening, May 11, 2009, at the Gosnell Memorial Hospice House in Scarborough. He was born on Dec. 9, 1937, in Rochester, N.H., the son of Jeffery and Marie (Maltais) Allaire. While a young teenager, Kenneth's family moved to South Portland in 1950 and he soon made friends, attending school and learning the lessons of life while living in the city. Mr. Allaire served in the United States Air Force and upon his honorable discharge; he began a long and rewarding career working as a master electrician. Robert belonged to the IBEW (International Brotherhood of Electrical Workers) Local 567 and was fortunate to work in a variety of settings and traveled extensively. He enjoyed working in Zaire, Africa, Kwajalein Island in the South Pacific, Panama, and the Bahamas, at Kennedy Space Center in Florida, Georgia and his beloved home state of Maine. For relaxation, Robert liked to do woodworking projects, play board games and he relished in an intricate puzzle that needed to be put together. He was an active member of the South Waterboro Bible Chapel. He is lovingly survived by his wife of 25 years, Patricia (Hayes) Galpin Allaire of Hollis Center; two sisters, Gloria Hendsbee of West Baldwin and Juanita Legassie of Old Orchard Beach; three step-children, Bruce Galpin Jr., Stephen Galpin, and Dawn Galpin all residing in Florida; his adopted daughter, Monica Allaire; two grandchildren and many nieces and nephews. A memorial service will be held on May 24, 2009, at 2 p.m. at the South Waterboro Bible Chapel, 911 Main St., with the Rev. Dan Lambertson, officiating. The Autumn Green Funeral Home is respectfully handling arrangements. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to: The Gosnell Memorial Hospice House 11 Hunnewell Rd.
