J.C. August
J.C. August, 87, a lifelong resident of the Diamond community, died at the Titusville Hospital at 3:20 a.m. yesterday. He had been in poor health for the past year and made his home with his son, Ivo S. August of Gresham. A son of the late William H. and Maria Russell August he was born on June 20, 1862, at Diamond, where he attended the Plum township schools.

On March 20, 1884 Mr. August was united in marriage with Miss Ruhama Jane Hays of Sunville. They were parents of the following four children: Floyd B., of Titusville; Glenn Ora, who died at the age of 21 months Mrs. Ethel August Green, who died May 21, 1918, and Ivo S. August of Gresham. Mrs. August, the wife, died January 15, 1922. Besides the two sons, the deceased leaves four grandsons and eight great-grandchildren. Mr. August married Mrs. Belle Proper of Diamond on March 9, 1926. She died in October, 1935.

He is the last of his family, three brothers and three sisters having preceded him in death.

Shortly after his first marriage, Mr. August operated the Fertig Farm, later called the Terrace Farm. Still later he moved back to Diamond, where he successfully operated a dairy farm until his son took over the management. He was a charter member of Diamond Grange No. 1320, being a past master and a director of the Patrons Mutual Fire Insurance Association for 25 years. He served on the executive committee of that association for 20 years. He was a member of Queen City lodge, IOOF for more than fifty years. Mr. August was greatly interest in his community and took a special interest in the Diamond Cemetery Association, which he served as president for many years. He was a member of the Evangelical United Brethren church all his adult life and served it faithfully. He was Sunday school superintendent for many years.
