He was a gunnery instructor and one of eight airmen killed when the
four-motored bomber crashed, approximately twenty-five miles northeast of the Casper Army Air Base, Wyoming, during a training flight.
The flight returned to the base to let off three personnel who had become air sick, then the bomber departed again. About 16 minutes later, the B-24 was observed by other aircraft to go into a flat spin and then dive out of control and crash into terrain and burst into flames. Investigation could not determine why control was lost. There appeared to be no evidence that any on board had attempted to bail out.
The other airmen killed were:
Capt. Charles W Bley Instr. pilot
2nd Lt. Eugene E Ravera
2nd Lt. John A Williams
Sgt. Vernon E Arne
Sgt. George P Peterson
Sgt. Duane T Zetah
Cpl. Elmer L Walter
