John Adair Mcdowell was a Major in the War Of 1812 and later became a Judge until his death in 1823. A Memorial Marker for him is in the Green Lawn Cemetery section P. in Franklinton (Columbus) Ohio. The Green Lawn Cemetery Office has no record that he was removed from the Old Franklinton Cemetery and re-interred at Green Lawn Cemetery. His earthly remains are at the Old Franklinton Cemetery in an unmarked grave or in a marked grave which the gravestone is illegible. Hon. (Judge) J. A. McDowell is the only known Judge interred in this cemetery. He died at the age of 34 years from the Fever or Ague durring 1923.

NOTE: Through my research, I believe that this weathered and broken gravestone is that of Hon. John Adair Mcdowell. The partial date on it matches the info of recorded transcriptions and matches no other gravestone at this cemetery. A memorial Monument is in Green Lawn Cemetery also and it reads: "EMINENT IN THE PROFESSION OF THE LAW; AFTER HAVING HONORABLY FILLED VARIOUS PUBLIC STATIONS. HE WAS AT THE TIME OF HIS DEATH IN 1823, ONE OF THE PRESIDENT JUDGES OF OHIO. BENEVOLENT AND COURTEOUS IN HIS INTERCOURSE WITH MANKIND HE EXIBITED A DEVOTED TENDERNESS AND AFFECTION IN ALL HIS DOMESTIC RELATIONS. TAKEN FROM HIS FAMILY AND NUMEROUS CONNECTIONS IN THE MIDST OF HIS USEFULNESS AND AT A TIME WHEN A BRILLIANT CAREER WAS OPENING TO HIM HE HAS LEFT TO SOOTHE THEIR SORROWS THE MEMORY OF HIS VIRTUES. THIS MONUMENT IS ERECTED BY HIS WIDOW AND CHILDREN IN TOKEN OF THEIR AFFECTION FOR THE BEST OF HUSBANDS AND PARENTS."
