He was born at Morganton, NC, to Robert Brittain and Lee Ola Hildebran Brittain.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Mabel Virginia Brirrain.

Surviving, two sons, Roy L. Brittain of Elk Creek, VA and Michael K. Brittain of Claremont, NC; daughter and spouse, Martha and James Mull of Glen Alpine, NC; five brothers and two spouses, Kermit and Peggy Brittain of Morganton, NC, Jack Brittain of Charlottesville, VA, Fritz and Emily Brittain of Charlottesville, VA, Bobby Brittain of Charlottesville, VA and Donald Brittain of Fairfax, VA; four grandchildren, Renee Mull, Chad Mull, Lily Sutherland and Stuart Brittain and six great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by sister, Ozell Jenkins and brother, Milton Brittain.

Funeral service will be held Monday, December 5, 2011 at 2 p.m. in Reins-Sturdivant Funeral Home Chapel, Independence, VA. Stewart Brittain officiating. Interment in Sixteen Acre Field Cemetery, Elk Creek, VA. Military rites conducted by Grayson County VFW Post 7726. The family will receive friends from 6-8 p.m. Sunday, December 4, 2011 at the funeral home. Flowers are appreciated or memorial contributions can be made to Mountain Valley Hospice, 606A East Stuart Drive, Galax, VA 24333
