Judith 'Judi' Maxine Black, 62, of Hartford, beloved mother and grandmother, went to her eternal rest peacefully on March 4, 2014, at Kindred Rehabilitation Center in Windsor, CT, after an extended struggle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). She was a lifelong resident of Hartford, CT. She attended Hartford Public Schools and ITT Tech where she was certified in Auto Body Repair. Judi was a strong, self-determined woman of many talents and she didn't mind getting her hands dirty. She was non-traditional in her approach to life, education and vocation. She touched a lot of people, she was a go getter and a respect me type of woman. She worked at Chandler Evans as a manual laborer, Connecticut Foundry as an inspector and grinder, and West Hill Convalescent Home as a nurse's aide. Working on cars was one of her passions, she loved to do auto body work. She worked for several years at Kibby's Car Care where she primed and painted cars. She later went on to own an Auto Body Shop on Nelson Street in Hartford. She enjoyed doing word search puzzles and watching old western television shows and talking on the phone. She was very firm in her opinions. While she presented a very stern exterior she had a generous heart. You could always get a laugh out of her, even in her last and final days.

Judith "Judi" Maxine Black was born to the late James Black Sr. & Eleanor (Knight) on July 26, 1951 in Hartford, CT. She was the fourth of five children, the only girl.

She is predeceased by her parents, her brother, Robert H. Black, son-in-law, Christopher Patterson and a very close friend, Vanessa Moore.

She leaves to cherish her memories her daughter Tesha Black-Patterson, two grandchildren Ebony Clarke and Joseph Husman, one great-grandson, King-Bless Jordan all of Hartford, three brothers James Black Jr., (Agnes) of Bloomfield, CT, Glenn Black of Meriden, CT and Harun Black of Atlanta, GA, two nieces, Kaia Black of Washington DC and Masai Black of Hampton Virginia, two nephews, Khary Black of Bloomfield, CT and Jabhri Black of College Park, GA, a great nephew, Kuwesi Black of Hartford. Very close friends, David & Shirley Webb, Nicky Jones, Claudia Harris and Kibby Dixon, all from Hartford and a host of other relatives and friends in Connecticut, New Jersey, California, and Kansas.

Her funeral will be held Tuesday, 11 a.m. at Gospel Lighthouse Apostolic Church, 2003 Main St. in Hartford with calling hours from 10-11 a.m. prior to the service. Burial will follow in Spring Grove Cemetery, Hartford.
