Joseph Ruffin Paige, 86, died Sunday, March 25 at the residence of his brother, Attorney R. G. L. Paige, 2nd, 2500 Middle avenue, Norfolk.

Born in Berkley, he was the husband of the late Mrs. Georgia Colden Paige and son of Att'y R. G. L. Paige, Sr. and Mrs. Lillie Ruffin Paige.

He attended public schools in Berkley and Norfolk Mission college, Norfolk. He studied pharmacy at Shaw University and matriculated at Howard University, Washington, DC, where he received the B. Ph. degree. He was known to many in this area as Dr. Paige.

He moved among many friends in Portsmouth, Berkley and Norfolk for years, was among the first colored pharmacists in the area and was proprietor of an elaborate establishment during this time.

He is survived by a brother and a host of relatives.

The body was taken to Pretlow Funeral home, Berkley, where services with the Rev. W. B. Westbrook of New Central Baptist Church, presiding, will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. Burial will be in Mount Olive Cemetery in the family plot.
