Longtime Alaska resident Glen Carlson, 71, died of natural causes Dec. 10, 2008, in Anchorage. A memorial service will be at 6 p.m. Wednesday at Faith Christian Community Church, 4240 Wisconsin St., in Anchorage. Glen was born Sept. 29, 1937, in Sweet Home, Ore. He moved to Alaska with his family in 1947 and attended Anchorage High School. He attended barber college, and started his own shop in Anchorage for a full career of haircutting. He also worked in real estate and commercial fishing. "He retired in 2002, and was well known in the community," his family recalled. "He was always the person his regulars could talk about everything with. Glen had a huge heart and helped many people and his family greatly. "His hobbies included fishing, golfing, bowling, boxing, skiing, water skiing and his crossword puzzles. He was at home, being out on the waters of Kachemak Bay and Resurrection Bay and the Kenai. He took full advantage of the Alaska summers for fishing, boating, camping and trips with family and friends." Survivors include his wife, Bok; sister, Ruby Hanson; sons, Joseph and John; daughters, Becky Milligan and Debi Lipp. He was preceded in death by his father, Loren; mother, Dorothy; stepmother, Sarah; brother, Gene, and sister, Joann Segars (Ney); and has a large extended family in Anchorage, Seattle and North Carolina. Arrangements are with Janssen's Evergreen Memorial Chapel.
