Christopher Joel Starkey
Christopher Joel Starkey, 45, of Mapleton, Utah, passed away unexpectedly on March 6, 2014. Our hearts are broken. He is a most loved husband, and beloved son, father, brother, and friend.
He was born December 23, 1968 to Ronald Gene Starkey and Barbara Jennie Budinich Starkey in Seattle, Washington.
Chris graduated from East Wenatchee High School in Washington, then attended BYU.
He served as a missionary in the LDS Provo Utah South Mission. During that time, he met Julie Bryn Taft. After his mission, he married Julie on December 13, 1991, in the Manti LDS Temple. Together, they have one son and three daughters. His children were his greatest pride and joy.
He was an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He achieved his Eagle Scout rank and continued to be active in scouting and sports. He devoted much time to the scouting program in guiding and teaching young men.
He also was very involved in coaching youth in baseball and football. Chris coached his son's baseball teams, since his son was 8 years old. Chris was a stalwart fan of the Seattle Seahawks and Washington Huskies. He enjoyed sports and was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting, hiking and camping.
Chris was a talented entrepreneur. He was self-taught in computer technology and networks, innovatively starting his own business, Wasatch Technology, and successfully leading it for 20 years. He thrived on a challenge.
Funeral services will be Wednesday, March 12, 2014 at 11 a.m. at the Mapleton LDS North Stake Chapel, 475 North 1600 West (Highway 89), Mapleton, Utah.
Interment will be at Springville Evergreen Cemetery.
