He graduated from East High School in Salt Lake City. Willis served an LDS Mission in Scotland. He also served in the U.S. Air Force in electronics. Willis married Jean Miller in the SLC Temple. Television was just starting, and CBS opened its network to Las Vegas in 1953. Testing the waters here, he went door-to-door and sold a television set at each home on one street. Moving to Las Vegas, he raised his family of five children, Willis Michael (Caroline), Susan Jean (Steve) Dexter, Greta Shumway, Pamela and Honey Gay (Glen) Easter. Family activities included church, water and snow skiing, camping, deer hunting and fishing. Jean passed away at age 39. He moved back to Las Vegas, marrying Theresa Martin in 1988. They had one daughter, Rebecca Lynn. He loved airplanes and had his pilot's license at age 14. An expert with radio controlled model airplanes, he competed nationally and internationally. He was a builder and landlord. If he needed it, he built it himself; He was a sailor, astronomer and HAM radio enthusiast. He reverenced the Lord and was often on His errand.
