E. H. Brockman, was born in Ostfriesland Germany, on the 29th day of March 1833, and died on Feb. 3, 1912. He was a son of Herman and Altje nee Deakon Brockman, who spent their entire lives in the fatherland. He has 3 sisters, one of whom Mrs. Annie Schipper, who has resided in Danforth for the past 31 years, the other 2 live in Germany.
Mr. Brockman was reared upon the old homestead in Germany and pursued his education in the public schools of that country. He remained a resident of that country until 1857, when he bade adieu to friends and native country and crossed the Atlantic to America. He resided for 8 years at Pekin, Ill. and after spending some time in other countries removed to Iroquois county in 1875. He here purchased a tract of prairie land several miles east of Danforth, and resided thereon continuously until 1897, when tract a short distance from his former one. Here he lived a retired life until death.

For many years he was closely associated with agricultural interests and the years brought him a good financial return for his labor, so that he has for a number of years been enabled to enjoy the comforts of life, having accumulated sufficient wealth to provide for his needs. He owned two hundred acres of well improved land and his farms are operated by his son Edward.

Mr. Brockman was married first in Pekin, Ill., on December 19, 1857 to Miss Anna Eaden, who was born in Germany. To this union 8 children were born, 3 of who died when young. Two others, namely Mrs. Katie Zachago and Mrs. Minnie Heideman, died after having grown into womanhood, the latter having died last October. Those living are Herman, Edward, and Mrs. Lena Meents. The mother died in the year 1894, at the age of 62 years, after having suffered from an illness for about 13 years.

In the year 1897 Mr. Brockman was again married, taking as his wife Mrs. Eliza Habbings, nee Falken, who had two children by a former marriage, namely Mrs. Margaret, who lives at home and Mrs. Rena who is the wife of Edward Brockman, son of subject. His latter wife was born in 1847, and survives him.

In his religious views, Mr. Brockman was a Lutheran, and was the first to haul lumber for the building of the Lutheran church at Danforth. He was always interested in church work and his efforts have been of value in promoting the cause which he advocated. Politically he was an earnest republican sine casting his vote for Abraham Lincoln. He served for 17 years as school director in his district.

Mr. Brockman deserves much credit for what he accomplished in life as he came to this country empty handed and worked his way steadily upward through the force of his character, his unflagging determination and his diligence.

His funeral which was held Tuesday of last week was attended by a large number of friends and neighbors, who assembled to pay their last tribute to the memory of the deceased.
