Anna Marie Murphy Reid, 85, of Lexington, passed away Thursday, May 10, 2012 at Lahey Medical Center in Burlington. Known as Nancy, she was born in New York City, on Dec. 22, 1926, daughter of Thomas Murphy and Annie Keenan Murphy. She graduated from Mount St. Vincent College in New York City. She went on to receive her master's degree in chemistry from Purdue University. There she met Robert Clark Reid, whom she married in 1950. Robert Reid, who became Chevron professor of chemical engineering at M.I.T., passed away in 2006. Nancy lived in Lexington for more than 50 years and was active in the Lexington Garden Club. She was a devoted member of St. Brigid Church, where she taught religion classes and served as a communion minister. While living in Lexington, Nancy received a masters degree in botany from the Harvard University Extension School. She was an accomplished bryologist and served as secretary of the Friends of the Farlow (the Harvard University Herbaria). Nancy was also an avid genealogical researcher and enjoyed needlepoint. She is survived by her children, Donald Reid (Holly Russell) of Chapel Hill, N.C., and Christine Reid (Donald Weber) of Arlington, Va.; and by four grandchildren, Otis and Hadley Reid, and Sarah and Rebecca Weber.
