AUSTIN -- Saralda C. Briggs, 82, of 611 12th Ave. S.W., a retired Austin Public Schools employee, died Thursday (March 23, 1995) at St. Olaf Hospital here.
Saralda Osmundson was born Sept. 18, 1912, in Adams, graduated from Adams High School in 1930 and, after completing normal training, taught in rural schools for two years. She moved to Austin in 1934, was employed at Hormel Foods Corp. for six years, and then was a homemaker until 1966 when she began her employment as a matron in Austin Public Schools. She retired in 1983. On Oct. 24, 1938, she married Douglas Briggs in Adams. Her husband died in 1971. Mrs. Briggs was a member of St. Olaf Lutheran Church here.
Survivors include two sons, Warren of Austin and Charles of Brooklyn Park, Minn.; two daughters, Cheryl Clancy of Woodbury, Minn., and Julie Briggs of Minnetonka, Minn.; six grandchildren; two great-grandchildren; and a brother, Juel Osmundson of Adams. She was preceded in death by a granddaughter, five brothers and a sister.
The funeral will be 11 a.m. Monday at St. Olaf Lutheran Church, with the Rev. Mark Decker officiating. Burial will be in Grandview Cemetery in Austin.
Friends may call from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday at Clasen-Jordan Mortuary in Austin and an hour before the service Monday at the church.
