Jonas was a prominent citizen of Rowe and Myrifield. He was deacon of the First Congregational Church of Rowe. He was Corporal of Capt. Gideon Chapin's company of Minute men, which marched April 21, 1775, in response to the Lexington alarm; was in service 19 days. Later he was a private in Capt. Lawrence Kemp's company, Col. Leonard's Regt., from Feb. 23, 1777 to April 10, 1777, and was at Ticonderoga. He was also in service in Capt. Seth Howard's company, Col. David Well's Regt., from Sept. 22 to Oct. 18, 1777.
