W. A. Tyree, 50, died at the county hospital late yesterday afternoon from a fractured skull suffered when he was struck down at the intersection of Fourth and State streets by an automobile.

Little hope had been held for Tyree from the time he was rushed to the hospital until his death. He never regained consciousness. Officers investigating the accident said Tyree apparently was walking across Fourth street, without looking where he was going and the driver was not held responsible.

Donald Tyree, a son living at Tokio, Texas, and Mrs Elsie Whittle, a daughter living at Long Beach, were notified by wire of their father's death.

Funeral services for W.A. Tyree were held at the Arnold funeral home. C.Y. Arnold was in charge of the arrangements. Burial was at the Mountain View cemetery. Mr. and Mrs. John Whittle of Long Beach attended the funeral. A son, Donald Tyree, lives in Texas and was unable to attend.
(From Imperial Valley Press articles 6-23/6-25-1932)

Will Tyree's death certificate confirms that he was killed "in an unavoidable automobile accident" on the corner of 4th & State Street in ElCentro, California. The certificate shows the burial to be in Mt. View Cemetery but a request for verification disclosed "there are no records of the burials going back to 1932 and if there is no marker, there is no way to verify it." I consider these newspaper articles to be that verification.

I know that Will Tyree was married at least three times and was "divorced" at the time of his death.

1. Myrtle Porter
2. Mattie Coffman
3. Beulah Aslee Coston

He fathered one daughter, Elsie May, with his first wife; two sons, William Donald and Dwight Littleton with his second wife; and three children, Edward William, Bonell & William Jr with his third wife.
