Dean E. Patton
Nov. 16, 1932 May 15, 2002
Dean passed away in the early morning of May 15, 2002 at home and with his wife and brothers and sisters-in-law at his side; after a valiant and hard fought 8 month battle with lung cancer.

At his request there will be no services.

Dean was born the third son of Charles and Helen Patton on November 16, 1932 in Topeka, KS. He graduated from San Bernardino High School in 1950, and then graduated from Long Beach City College and Washburn University in Topeka. He served in the Quartermaster Corps in the U.S. Army, including a tour in Germany.

Dean worked as an accountant for 30 plus years for Contel Telephone Corporation and its predecessor companies California Interstate Telephone Company and California Water and Power Company. He kept the books for the parent corporation back when men were men and accountants balanced ledgers by hand, and he was never convinced that computers did a better job.

He was located in Victorville, CA where he participated in the Great Fort Caper; Atlanta, GA.; and Bakersfield.

He took a disability retirement in 1986 due to the effects of Muscular Dystrophy.Dean was a precise kind of guy and enjoyed supervising his wife and children, upon whom he doted. His terrific sense of humor will be remembered fondly by all who knew him.

Dean was preceded in death by his parents, Charles and Helen, and his nephew Scott.

He is survived by Betty, his loving wife of 28 years; brothers and wives, Dick and Ruth Patton of Rogers, AR., and David and Margaret Patton of Topeka, KS.; nephews, Craig and Julie Patton of Huntsville, AL., Chris and Roberta Patton of San Diego, CA., and Steve Patton of Pullman, WA.

He also leaves his beloved children Bubba and Callie, Maggie and Mattie, and Charlie.Sincere thanks to the staffs at CBCC, Bakersfield Heart Hospital and Hoffman Hospice, who included caring in their care for Dean.

Dean was a devoted and loyal friend and this was returned to him. Special thanks to those who helped brighten his final days: Karl Aspinall, George Atmore, Ken and Korwyn Fuller, Peter Goldstein, Myron Jantz, Bill Kotz, Gaylen and Shirley Retteke, Delmer and Loveta Sands, Rick and Sheri Scott, Glenn and Joann Shellcross, Dick and Connie Stewart and Susan Wells.

Special blessings to sister-in-law, Lisa Porter for her daily, much anticipated massages; and to nephew Steve Patton and Bettys niece, Lara Easter who were absolute angels in caring for him near the end.

Words cannot describe the extraordinary devotion and help given to a friend who loved him by Will Hanna and his wife Waltina.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be sent to Deans favorite charity, The Bakersfield S.P.C.A.Friends are invited to drop by Deans mansion from 1-5 p.m. on Sunday, June 2.

Dean will be mourned now and missed forever. Good bye, Love.
