WHEELING, IN - Robert "Bob" Harold Lutton Sr. passed away Wednesday, March 5, 2014 at his home in the town of Wheeling after a short illness. Members of his family were at his bedside.

He was born in Muncie to William and Gladys A. (Campbell) Lutton.

He attended Muncie Central School but did not graduate. He received his GED in 1970 the same year as his daughter graduated from high school. He went to work for a metal company when out of school at the age of 16, then went to work for Chevrolet-Muncie at the age of 18.

He was in the military during the Korean Conflict and was stationed in Germany as a PFC in the U.S. Army from February 7, 1951 and was discharged January 21, 1953.

He married Phyllis Ann Smith July 7 1951. They would celebrate their sixty-third anniversary this year.

He worked more than thirty years at Chevrolet-Muncie, retiring in 1978. He worked in the shipping and receiving department.

He was a fifty-one year member of the Mathews Blue Lodge/Masonic 650 Mathews, IN, Mizpah Shriners International, Fort Wayne, IN, Murpah Shrine Club, Muncie, IN, Ancient Accepted Scottish Rite, Fort Wayne, IN (member since 1963), Order of Eastern Star, Upland, IN, Delaware Co. Historical Society, American Legion #387, Gaston IN, Prairie Grove Congregational Christian Church, Gaston, Local Union #499, Muncie, IN, Democrat Rooster Booster Club and Chanticleer Club.

Robert and his wife were members of the Friendly Steppers Square Dance Club for many years and enjoyed square dancing.

Robert loved to spend time with his grandchildren and great grandchildren, camping, playing golf, fishing and traveling. He loved to go to Florida and spend time with his many friends and go to Lake Panasoffkee Florida to stay in their mobile home. He loved to travel west to Idaho and visit distant relatives that are cattle ranchers.

He is survived by his wife of sixty-three years, Phyllis Ann (Smith) Lutton; daughter, Sunny Sue (Lutton) Reed (husband, Steven W); son, Robert Harold Lutton Jr. (wife, Cindy); five grandchildren, Steven D. Reed (wife, Amy) Gaston, Stephanie D. Clapp (husband, Larry) Gaston, Mathew Carvel, Gaston, Brooke Jeffris, Gaston, Gavin Lutton, Muncie; seven great-grandchildren, Jacklin R. Williams, Kyler Carvel, Alyssa Carvel, McKenzie Jeffris, Hayden Jeffris, Evan Reed, Chloe Reed; one sister, Alice Hildreth (sis) (husband, Paul) Gaston; one brother, Jim Lutton, Muncie; several nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Gladys Lutton; his father, William Lutton; four brothers, Donald, George, Vernon, and Ray Lutton and two sisters, Beverly Sue Smith and Betty Jean Lutton.

A celebration of life will be 11:00 a.m. Saturday, March 8, 2014 at the Gant Funeral Home, Gaston Chapel with Pastor Joe Blalock officiating. Burial and Honors will be held in the Elizabethtown Cemetery, by the Veteran's of Delaware County.

Friends may call from 4:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. Friday and from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Masonic services will be 7:00 p.m. Friday evening at the funeral home.

Friends and family may make donations to The Shriners Children's Hospital at 2900 Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607, or I.U. Ball Memorial Hospice 2401 West University, Muncie, IN 47305 in lieu of flowers.
