KEARNEY — Bernice C. Frauen, 91, formerly of Grand Island, died on Thursday, March 6, 2014, at the Mount Carmel Home in Kearney.
Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday at All Faiths Funeral Home in Grand Island. The Revs. Dona Carpenter and Stephen Price-Gibson will officiate. Burial will be in the Grand Island City Cemetery.
Mrs. Frauen was born on Sept. 30, 1922, on the family farm east of Grand Island to Henry and Mamie (Husman) Duennerman.
She married Vern Frauen on Feb. 14, 1941. He preceded her in death.
Survivors of the immediate family include one daughter and son-in-law, Janis and Jim Shultz of Kearney.
Also surviving are two grandsons, Monty and Mike (Tiffany) Shultz; and six great-grandchildren, Brittany, Ryan, Ciara, Dakota, Taniesha and Michael.
In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by an infant son and infant sister.
She received her education at District 17 in Merrick County and later at Seedling Mile School.
Following their marriage, Bernice and Vern lived in Hondo and Laredo, Texas, while Vern was in the Army Air Force during World War II. Afterward, they returned to Grand Island to a farm east of town. They farmed and had poultry and livestock.
After retirement, they belonged to several camping groups and traveled the country extensively. No one ever stopped without leaving full. She always had something to eat and the coffee pot on. She especially enjoyed baking angel food cake and home-baked bread.
