Mrs. Gertrude Church Hardin, "Mama Gert," 83, of Columbia, TN, passed away Sunday, Sept. 18, 2011, at Maury Regional Medical Center.

She was born in Chattanooga, TN to the late Clifford Church Sr. and Myrtle Choate Church and moved to Maury County in her early years. She was a retired employee of Joseph Brown Elementary School where she served many, many years in the cafeteria. She was a faithful member of Mt. Vernon Baptist Church.

She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years William "PaPa" Hardin Sr; son William "Ace" Hardin Jr; foster parents Charlie and Louise Choate Sandford; stepmother Adeline Church; sister Edna Church; brother Clifford Church Jr. and Tonalius "T" Gilbert, raised as a god-grandson.

She is survived by a loving daughter Sheila Hardin and niece, who was raised as a daughter, Bonnie Hall, both of Columbia, TN; first cousins raised as brothers and sisters, sister Belinda Wells of Detroit, MI; stepsister Willie Mae Lawson of Chattanooga, TN; daughter-in-law Ann Hardin of Romulus, MI; brother-in-laws Raymond Jack (Pat) Hardin of Chattanooga, TN, and Maurice (Marcellous) Hardin of Denver, CO; sister-in-law Patricia Spann of Nashville, TN; four grandchildren, five great-grandchildren, two great-great-grandchildren and a host of mentored children, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

The body will lie in state Friday, Sept. 23, 2011, from noon-7 pm at Roundtree, Napier & Ogilvie Coluimbia Funeral Home. Visitation with the family will be Saturday, Sept. 24, 2011, from 11 am-noon. The funeral will follow at Mt. Vernon M.B. Church with the Rev. A.E. Paschall officiating.

Interment will follow in Pinecrest Memorial Gardens.

Roundtree, Napier & Ogilvie Columbia Funeral Home is in charge of the arrangements.
