Paul James Whitson was born on August 3, 1939 in Peckham, Oklahoma to Paul Graves and Lillian (Neidgh) Whitson. He attended Roosevelt Elementary School before transferring to Vernon Public Schools and graduated from Vernon High School in 1957. Jim worked at the Vernon Food Store when he married Brenda Eulene Dunlap. They were united in marriage on February 10, 1961 in Frederick. He joined the Frederick Fire Department in 1961 and retired as Fire Chief in 1981.During his career, he was a member of the Oklahoma Firefighters Education Advisory Committee, where he helped revise the education manuals for the Oklahoma Fire Service. Jim later taught multiple training techniques to fire departments across southwest Oklahoma. He returned to work and was a part of the Frederick Parks Department until his second retirement in 2008. Jim enjoyed vacationing with his family as well as camping, fishing and painting landscapes. His real passion was gardening. He was a member of the 13th & Josephine Church of Christ.
He is survived by his wife Brenda of the home; two sons, James Brent Whitson and Paul Bryan Whitson both of San Antonio, Texas; one daughter-in-law, Adrienne Whitson of Lawton; four grandchildren, Lance Whitson and his wife Crystal of Frederick, Haley Whitson of Weatherford, Aubree Whitson of Lawton, and Alex Whitson of San Antonio; three great-grandchildren, Landon and Layton Whitson and Draigen Turman; one brother, Eddie Whitson and his wife Pat of Wichita Fall, Texas; two sisters-in-law, Teresa Whitson of San Antonio, and Patti Whitson Linker of Vernon, Texas; his mother-in-law, Erma Dunlap of Tipton; his brother-in-law, Doug Dunlap of Frederick; and numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents; one son: Douglas Brandon "Brandy" Whitson; and four brothers: Charles, Willie, Jack and Ronnie Whitson.
