Henry was the son of Elisha Lathrop (1808-1855) and Lauranna Charlotte Avery (1820-1884). He was married in Rhode Island on 19 September 1872 to Juliet Amanda Carter Rose, b. N. Kingstown, RI 4 Dec 1847, the daughter of William G. Rose and Mary T. Dixon of Washington Co., RI. In 1875 he was living with wife and daughter in Providence, RI, and in 1880 the family was in Waltham, Middlesex, MA, now with a second daughter. In 1900 Henry and Juliet lived in Richmond, New York, with three children. It appears that Juliet may have died shortly thereafter, because on 23 January 1905 Henry L. Lathrop married Anstiss V. Lathrop, and he appears with her in the 1910 and 1920 censuses in Norwich, CT. Henry's first wife, Juliet, is buried on Staten Island (Richmond Co., NY); where his second wife is buried has not ben learned. Only Henry's daughter, Mary D., is buried with him. Children:

* Mary D., b. CT July 1873

* Carrie R., b. RI Nov 1876

* Henry J., b. MA March 1883
