Rachael Garvin, daughter of James and Prudence Garvin, was born January 10th, 1835, in Koscinsko County, Indiana, died August 17th, 1900, aged 65 ears, 7 months and 7 days. Her early life was spent on her father’s farm in Koscinsko County, Indiana until November 28th, 1855, when she was united in marriage to John L. Merritt, of Logansport, Indiana. To this union was added three children – two sons and one daughter. Two of them preceded her to the better land. One still remains to mourn the loss of her dear mother. She leaves a devoted husband, one son and three sisters and one brother and three grandchildren. She united with the Baptist church January 1852, and remained a faithful Christian until her death. The funeral took place from the residence at Pryor Creek, I.T. The sermon was preached by W. G. Patterson, pastor of Baptist church, Vinita, from the text in John 14.10 at 11 a.m., Aug. 19th.
