"A train accident has claimed the life of a Middle Tennessee soldier stationed in Texas.
Spc. Jesse Gilbert, 23, of Centerville, died after being hit by a train in El Paso on Saturday.
Spc. Gilbert was stationed at Fort Bliss.
According to El Paso police, Gilbert was walking northbound on the railroad tracks while a Union Pacific train was traveling south. The conductor says it appeared Gilbert was looking down while operating a hand-held device and wearing headphones.
The train sounded its horn but Gilbert was unable to move from the tracks in time, police say.
His death appears to be an accident and no charges are expected.
Spc. Gilbert leaves behind a wife and a child."
