Redwood City Democrat
July 10. 1902
John H. Offermann, one of Redwood City's pioneer merchants, passed away in the German Hospital in San Francisco on Monday night. Mr. Offermann had been an invalid for several weeks and while his family and friends held but little hope of his ultimate recovery the suddenness of his passing away was a painful shock to them. Mr. Offermann was a native of Germany, aged 62 years. He came to Redwood in 1866 and engaged in merchandising with Gelvert Plump, at the old Eureka corner. The firm established the old Eureka Brewery, which they afterwards sold to Mr. Hadler. Since the early 80's the deceased has been conduction his won store at the corner of Main and Phelps streets.
In 1873, Mr. Offermann was elected County Treasurer on the Democratic ticket, serving two terms. He was married in 1882 and leaves, besides his wife, four daughters Annie, Emma, Bertha, and Viola Offermann. He also leaves a sister, Mrs. Annie Gudehus and a brother, C.H.
