TUSCALOOSA |Troy C. Averette, age 87 of Tuscaloosa. went to be with the Lord on Feb. 4, 2007 at DCH Northport. servlces will be 1 p.m. today at TuUscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home with pastors Orlando Johnson and John Vaughn officiating. Burial will follow In Tuscaloosa Memorial Park with the United States Air Force conducting military graveside rites and Tuscaloosa Memorial Chapel Funeral Home directing. Visitation will be one hour prior to services at the funeral home, Mr. Averette was born on December 5, 1919 In Marion County to William Chester and Delia Averette. His parents and siblings. Clifton. J.B., Berlie. and Verlie all preceded him in death.
Survivors Include his wife, Willyne Averette. and daughters Troi Lane Wallace (Randy), Sheila Springer; and grandchildren, Cody Elmore, Erin Guln (Jonathan), Hadley Bloch (Joe) and step-grandchildren, Jessalyn and Taylor Wallace.
Mr, Averette attended Tuscaloosa High School, and upon graduation. Joined the United States Air Force and served as a tech sergeant in World War II. After marrying the love of his life. Willyne. he opened Averette Radio & Television in Tuscaloosa until an accident forced him to close the shop after 21 years in business, He then worked for Tuscaloosa Vending Company to continue his love of "fixing things
He was involved in many organizations in his younger years. Including serving as President of the Tuscaloosa Jaycees, as well as President of the Junior Chamber of Commerce. He was dedicated to the Tuscaloosa community and his church. First Wesleyan. Mr. Averette spent countless hours at his church repairing whatever needed repairing and copying the weekly sermons onto tapes to give to those who could not attend. He volunteered for the First Wesleyan Academy and cooked lunch for them each day. Mr. Averette served on the Board of Directors at First Wesleyan from 1948-1992. until his health no longer permitted.
Papa's warm smile and bear hugs will never be forgotten. He was a wonderful husband, father, grandfather and friend. Papa was a Christian servant throughout his life, and was a living example of his favorite verse, Matthew 5:16, " let your light shine before men, that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father In heaven."
We love you Papa, more than you know.
Pallbearers will be Cody Elmore, Randy Wallace, James Bonner, Billy Lake, Joe Averette and Jimmy Hall.
Honorary pallbearers Include special caregiver Brenda Jones Moss. V.A. Medical Center Home Healthcare team, Dr. Avinash Nichiani, Dr. Philip Abney. Scott Singer, the staff of DCH Home Health and the nurses of First Floor DCH Northport.
