Gordon was born in Logandale, Nevada on December 5, 1935 to Edwin Gordon Wells Sr. and Amy Viola Earl. His early years were spent working on the family farm and dairy. He served as a missionary for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Western States Mission from 1956 to 1958. He graduated from BYU in 1961 and UCLA Law School in 1966, and practiced law in Salt Lake City, Santa Barbara, and Vacaville, California.
Gordon was married to Annette Whitney in 1969 in the Salt Lake Temple and they began raising a family. In 1980, he received a Master's degree from UC Davis in vegetable and fruit crops. A gifted speaker, Gordon loved to teach home gardening classes, and authored the book Successful Home Gardening.
He devoted many years of his life to service in the Church, and served as President of the Vacaville Stake from 1991 to 2000. Gordon again served as a missionary with his wife Annette, in the Arcadia California Mission from 2011 to 2012. He truly lived a life of faith, service, and teaching.
He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Annette Whitney Wells, and children: Jennifer Mikolajcik, Kathryn Ward, Edwin Wells III, Daniel Wells, Mary Chaffin, Rebecca Monson, Deborah Adam, and Beth Ann Wells.
