Barbara Jean Tanner, age 75, passed away Saturday, March 1, 2014 at her home.

Barbara was born May 25, 1938 to Kenneth and Mary Mikesell in Glenrock, Wyoming. She graduated and moved to Casper where she met the man of her dreams. She married Francis (Jack) Tanner in 1958 and moved to Idaho in January 1961.

She started her career as a bookkeeper at Idaho First National Bank and later at Kraft Foods in Rupert. In 1977 she and Jack started Tanner Drilling Company and they continued to drill wells until retirement.

When she was not keeping books for the company, she loved to sew and garden. Barbara made everything from dance recital tutus to bowling team shirts to wedding and prom dresses. During the summers she would consistently produce bountiful gardens, water ski on the Snake River, and snowmobile on Mount Harrison in the winter.

After retirement she would travel with Jack to small engine shows all over the Northwest were they would display Jack's homemade engines. These shows were where Barbara developed her passion for quilting. The wives would display their quilts as the men would display their engines.

Barbara was President of the Mount Harrison Snowmobile club for 10 consecutive years. She was an active member and Past President of the Mount Harrison Quilt Guild. She was the current President of the Syringa Chapter of the Lady Lions where she was driven to provide service to the community.

She was survived by two children: Janice (Dean) Weiner, Chesterfield, VA, Bill (Mary) Tanner, Rupert, ID; son-in-law, Bill Lindauer, Meridian, ID; seven grandchildren; and eleven great-grandchildren; and Marge Masry, Los Angeles, Larry Mikesell, Burley, ID, Alice (Tom) Hartley, Nampa, ID, Pete (Janice) Tanner, Newcastle, WY, Russell (Dixie) Tanner, Reedsport, OR, Jean (Frank) Tanner, Riverton, WY and Bonnie (Manual) Sisneros, Greeley, CO.
