Orval C. Benson, 95, Bismarck, formerly of Crosby, passed away peacefully on March 4, 2014, at Missouri Slope Lutheran Care Center, Bismarck. Services will be held at 10:30 am Monday, March 10, at Faith Lutheran Church, Bismarck, with Rev. Jon Larson officiating. Burial will be at the North Dakota Veterans Cemetery, Mandan. Visitation will be held from 3:00 pm – 6:00 pm Sunday, March 9, at Eastgate Funeral Service, Bismarck. Visitation will continue one hour prior to the service at the church. Orval was born in 1918, to Arnold and Sadie (Wilke) Benson. He was raised and educated in Larson. Orval married Elaine Forthun on February 14, 1943. The couple enjoyed going out dancing in their younger days. Orval and Elaine recently celebrated their 71st wedding anniversary on February 14, 2014. Orval worked with the CCC's and then entered the Army, serving with the Parachute Infantry Regiment from 1941-1945. He worked various jobs after his honorable discharge, finally settling in as manager of a grain elevator in Corinth and then working until retirement at a grain elevator in Crosby. Orval is survived by his wife, Elaine, Bismarck; daughters, Donna Seibel, Dickinson, and Wendy (Clarence) Johnson, Bismarck; two sons, David (Darcy), Fargo, and Wade (Cindy), Horace; 10 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; brothers, Ralph, LaVern, and LaMore; and his sister, Nina Gochanour.
